How I Chose a Chiropractic Career

Lower Sackville Chiropractor, Dr. Lisa Richard

Dr. Lisa Richard

I was in a severe car accident involving a moose at 18 years old on my way home from University. I lost a lot of mobility in my back and neck for several years until I was introduced to Chiropractic.

My introduction at the age of 20 happened while witnessing an injured athlete who was unable to stand up without help, walk out of the Chiropractor’s office on his own after treatment. I became a patient soon after and never looked back.

Chiropractic Education

I attended the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. I had no idea how intense the program really was until my first year. It was like taking 3 years of University in one year. Unbelievable. Coming from sport science/athletic therapy background I thought I would be flying through anatomy in my first year. Most of what I learned in University was covered in the first 3 months — the rest of the year was all new!!

The human body is truly amazing and I have never stopped learning more every day. My favorite instructor was Dr. Watkins in Chiropractic philosophy. It was this course that helped me to understand there is a lot more to your health than being pain free.

Practice Philosophy

Our main purpose is to help those who are seeking to improve their health and to stay well. We encourage patients to choose their health goals and we will support the journey.

I have been in practice for over 19 years now, and I thoroughly enjoy educating people of all ages about what Chiropractic can do for them and their family. It is truly fulfilling to watch people transition from pain care to wellness care, to discover new hope for chronic problems as well as easy solutions for new injuries. Let’s decrease the burden on the health care system by learning to stay well.

A Little About Me

I grew up in New Mills, New Brunswick, but Nova Scotia has been my home since 1998. I have a wonderful supportive husband, Jeff, and a four-legged kid named Desmond. We all love spending time hanging out at dog parks for a little R&R.

Basketball is my second love. I regularly play once or twice a week with an awesome team of women in the Melba league since 1998.

However, if I was to describe a true passion of mine it would be singing. I have done this for fun since I was a child and bumped it up a notch while living in Toronto. I sang with a band for three years and appeared on Breakfast Television. One of my reasons for moving to the Halifax area was the large amount of musical talent here. I have since had the opportunity of guest singing with a number of bands as well as my own from time to time.

I love to be active in my community and am involved in provincial and national regulatory bodies such as the Registrar and the soon to be President of our Federation.

How I Stay Healthy

I regularly enjoy chiropractic wellness care once every 1 to 2 weeks. Of course I will increase the frequency if I am not feeling my best. I follow a high quality protein shake and cleanse program as well as enjoying as many organic foods as possible. I constantly try to stay away from processed foods of any kind. Keeping it clean, lean and colorful is my menu. All natural supplements and remedies are used in our house, even for our four-legged child.

Enough about me! How can we help you and your family with safe, effective, and natural Chiropractic care? Give our Lower Sackville chiropractic office a call so we can help you take your first step towards better health today.
